You agree to the terms of service below, and the Terms of Use for Substack, the technology provider.
The KuLT Press — Terms of Service
Effective date: January 8, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of The KuLT Press (the “Publication”), including any content, subscriptions, community features, and related services offered through Substack or any other platform we use (collectively, the “Service”).
By accessing the Service, subscribing, purchasing, reading, or participating (including commenting), you agree to these Terms.
1) Who we are
The KuLT Press is an independent publication featuring narrative and educational work at the intersection of mathematics, evolutionary biology, and the hidden human side of science, including series such as Maths Casualties.
Contact: inwelynn@gmail.com
2) Platform terms also apply
The Service is hosted and delivered via Substack and/or other third-party platforms. Your use of those platforms is also governed by their terms, policies, and payment processing rules. If there’s a conflict between these Terms and a platform’s required policies, the platform’s policies control for platform-provided features (for example: billing infrastructure).
3) Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
4) Subscriptions, billing, and renewals
Free subscriptions provide access to public posts and any free features we choose to offer.
Paid subscriptions provide access to subscriber-only posts, full archives, and any paid perks described on the Publication at the time of purchase.
Founding memberships include paid benefits plus any additional benefits described for that tier at the time you subscribe.
If you purchase a subscription, you authorize the applicable platform (and its payment processors) to charge your payment method on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, depending on your plan) until you cancel.
5) Cancellations
You can cancel at any time through your account settings on the platform hosting the Service. Cancellation stops future renewals; you typically retain access through the end of the current billing period, subject to the platform’s rules.
6) Refund policy
Unless required by law, payments are non-refundable.
That said, we’re human: if something went wrong (double charge, accidental upgrade, etc.), contact inwelynn@gmail.com and we’ll do our best to help within reason and consistent with platform capabilities.
7) Intellectual property and how you may use the content
All Publication content—including essays, posts, audio, images, illustrations, PDFs, downloads, and brand elements—belongs to The KuLT Press and/or its creator(s) and licensors, and is protected by copyright and other laws.
Personal use license: You may read, download, and use the content for your personal, non-commercial use.
You may not, without written permission:
repost paid content publicly (including copying into other newsletters, websites, or social feeds)
sell, license, distribute, or republish our work
compile, scrape, or systematically extract the archive
train or fine-tune an AI model on paid content or compile paid content into datasets for automated use
remove watermarks or attribution
create derivative commercial works based on Publication content
Sharing: You’re welcome to share links, short excerpts, and your reactions/notes, as long as you:
keep excerpts brief (no paywall bypassing), and
clearly attribute The KuLT Press.
8) Community rules (comments, replies, and participation)
We want thoughtful, curious conversation. By participating, you agree to:
be respectful (no harassment, hate speech, threats, or doxxing)
avoid spam, scams, or promotional flooding
avoid posting illegal content or infringing material
keep discussion constructive even when disagreeing
We may remove comments or restrict access at our discretion to protect the community and the Publication.
9) User submissions and feedback
If you post comments, replies, suggestions, survey responses, or other material (“User Content”), you retain ownership of your User Content.
However, you grant The KuLT Press a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your User Content as needed to operate the Service (for example: displaying comments), and to quote it in the Publication with attribution unless you request otherwise.
If you submit ideas or suggestions, you understand we may use them without compensation (we can’t treat every suggestion as confidential IP), though we may credit you when appropriate.
10) Copyright complaints
If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, contact inwelynn@gmail.com with:
identification of the work claimed to be infringed
the URL or description of where it appears
your contact information
a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized
a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your claim is accurate and you are authorized to act
We will respond in a reasonable timeframe and may remove or restrict access to the material.
11) Educational content disclaimer
The KuLT Press publishes educational and narrative content. It is not medical, legal, financial, or professional advice. While we aim to be careful and accurate, we do not guarantee completeness or error-free content. Use your judgment and consult qualified professionals for decisions that require professional advice.
12) No warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
13) Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, The KuLT Press will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid to The KuLT Press for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
(Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, these limits apply to the fullest extent permitted.)
14) Indemnification
If you violate these Terms or misuse the Service, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless The KuLT Press from claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your actions, including your User Content.
15) Changes to the Service or Terms
We may update the Service, features, pricing, and these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the effective date and, when feasible, notify subscribers via a post or email. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
16) Termination
We may suspend or terminate access to the Service if we reasonably believe you’ve violated these Terms, harmed the community, engaged in fraud, or used the Service unlawfully. Where appropriate, we may provide notice, but we reserve the right to act immediately to protect the Publication and community.
17) Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Diego County, California, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
